• Notes

  I have made two assumptions/presumptions: 1, that the Jane Phillips who is listed as 13 yrs old in the 1850 U.S. Census, in the household of Thomas G Phillips, is his sister. That would mean that she is also the sister of my ancestor, John Boyle Phillips. 2, that she is the same Jane Phillips as the Jane Phillips who married Eckart Bentel, was widowed, and later married William Strutt. These assumptions are supported by 3 DNA matches between myself, a descendant of John Boyle Phillips, and descendants of Jane Phillips and Eckart Bentel. Jane Phillips Bentel Strutt's death certificate lists her parents as George Phillips and Elizabeth Reed. Updated 9/10/2020 Further evidence that Jane Phillips Bentel Strutt is the sister of Thomas Garrett Phillips b. 1826 is that she named a son Garrett Thomas (Bentel), and one of her gr-grandchildren is named Thomas Garrett (Moore).
